Originated in Southern India, Andar Bahar is a popular Indian game. The basic concept of the game is to bet on the outcomes of a cut card appearing on two sides, Andar (inside – left) and Bahar (outside – right).
If you don’t know much about the rules, this article should be your guide to playing Andar Bahar. However, if you want to gain practical knowledge, you can also try out the game right away at any of our recommended real money Andar Bahar sites listed here.
Number of Players and Cards
In traditional Andar Bahar, which is played offline, there is no limit on the number of players. The online game, however, is played one-on-one. One player plays against one dealer using a deck of 52 cards. All cards carry their usual value; Ace of all suits is the highest and 2 of all suits is the lowest.
Game Guide
Andar Bahar is both a game of chance as well as a game of skill. As discussed earlier, it is played using a standard deck of 52 cards. The dealer takes out a card before the beginning of the betting rounds, which is known as the cut card.
The rest of the cards are piled alternately on two betting sides, called Andar (inside – left) and Bahar (outside – right). To win the bet, you must correctly predict on which side the cut card will appear.
Once a cut card is placed, the other cards for Andar and Bahar are pulled out rapidly. The dealer keeps piling the cards on either side face up till a card similar to the cut card appears. This is the trump card or winning card. Depending on the side you bet on, you either win or lose.
Online Andar Bahar isn’t much different from offline Andar Bahar when it comes to rules. The only difference perhaps is the absence of the crowd which is typical of the traditional game.

Variations of Andar Bahar
Andar Bahar comes with a decent number of variations. The overall gameplay remains similar and with minor changes. The different variations of Andar Bahar are as follows:
Variations Based on Game Type
- Live Andar Bahar
Live Andar Bahar is played online in real-time. You play with a real human dealer instead of a computer AI. Videos of the game are streamed from physical studios in remote locations. Such variations of the game provide you with an all-immersive experience. You will feel that you are playing at a brick-and-mortar casino. These games also come with different interesting features like live chat, history statistics, player data, and interactive dealers. - Virtual Andar Bahar
Virtual Andar Bahar is played online against a computer AI. Such games are pre-developed application software built with Random Number Generator (RNG) technology. While Andar Bahar Live offers winnings in the form of real money, the virtual version might or might not offer it. Online casinos with virtual Andar Bahar would let you win real money. However, if you choose a free chips game, you might not be able to do that. Either way, virtual Andar Bahar is one of the best ways to learn the rules of the game.
Variations Based on Side Bets
- Andar or Bahar Wins on the First Card
This side bet involves betting on whether the first card being dealt will be a winning card. This can either be the Andar card or the Bahar card. However, the probability of it being an Andar card is more. - First 3 Cards: Flush, Straight, or Straight Flush
In this side bet, you bet on whether the first three cards that are dealt will be either Flush, Straight or Straight Flush. Here is an explanation of these hand rankings:
– A flush is a cluster of 3 cards of the same suit. For example, A-K-J.
– A sequence is when there are 3 consecutive cards but not of the same suit. For example, K-Q-J.
– A straight flush is when there are 3 consecutive cards of the same suit. For example, A-K-Q.
- Total Number of Cards Dealt
Here, you bet on the number of cards that will be dealt before a winning card is pulled out. The bet is placed on certain ranges of numbers, which have been mentioned in the table below. - Number of Cards Dealt: Odd or Even
This Andar Bahar side bet is placed on whether the number of cards that will pile up before the cut card will be an odd or even number.

Rules of Online Andar Bahar vs. Land-Based Andar Bahar
As an Indian, you must have heard about Andar Bahar, if not played. While land-based Andar Bahar has its own charm, online Andar Bahar is the real deal. Both of them are definitely not poles apart but do have some differences.
- Online Andar Bahar can be played from the comfort of your home. Just grab your PC or your mobile and start playing. Such a facility cannot be provided by the land-based version.
- When you play land-based Andar Bahar you might or might not get any bonus money to play with. On the other hand, with online Andar Bahar, you almost always get to play with extra money thanks to various promotional offers.
- One of the players needs to become a dealer in land-based Andar Bahar. However, when you play it online, the dealer is already appointed for you.
- Land-based Andar Bahar has a pretty good chance of being rigged even if the rules look fair. But such a thing would never happen when you play the game online.
- Andar Bahar at online casinos comes with some minimum bet limits but those are usually fair bet limits and would not be a problem for you.
